On April 11 the European Commission made public its new regional approach to the Black Sea area in its communication on a "Black Sea Synergy - A new regional cooperation initiative" [COM (2007) 160 final]. The document responds largely to the previously tabled BSEC policy document on "BSEC-EU Interaction: The BSEC Appoach". The latter was drafted by the ICBSS with contributions by the BSEC member states and, having been endorsed by the Committee of Senior Officials of the BSEC, had been presented to the EU institutions for consideration as a regional input to the recent Communication.
